GISA Debates
GISA Election Debates
As a reminder, the GISA election debates for the Professional Development Committee President and Treasurer will take place tomorrow evening, April 29, in A2 from 18:00 until 20:00. On the next evening, April 30, the GISA Election debates for the Vice President of Master’s Programmes and President positions will take place.
Students are encouraged to attend in person or online; details will be shared before the debates, and to submit questions for the debate HERE. Submissions will remain open until midnight tonight.
Reopening of The Events Coordinator Role
There is an important update regarding the election process for the Events Coordinator position. The current candidates, Shruti Satish, 1st Year IRPS, and Alejandra Velasquez Erquiaga, 1st Year MINT (Environment and Sustainability), have decided to drop out of the race as individuals; instead, they have requested to run as co-candidates for the Events Coordinator position. There is, however, no scope to allow for this in the GISA Statutes and By-laws; therefore, following discussions amongst the GISA Executive Committee and the candidates, we have decided upon the following:
Without the current candidates competing in the election,
Nominations via the nomination form, see below, for the Events Coordinator position will reopen until May 2nd at 23:59, before voting opens in the currently scheduled election on May 3rd at 17:00.
Candidates may also nominate themselves at the debate tomorrow night as per the usual rules. If anyone does nominate themselves before the scheduled debate they will also be invited to attend.
If no candidates nominate themselves before the new May 2nd deadline, then the election for the Events Coordinator position will not take place as scheduled;
Instead, a General Assembly will be called as soon as possible following the currently scheduled elections for the other roles to update the statutes and by-laws to allow for co-candidates to run for the position in a scenario where no single candidate nominates themselves.
Given the nature of the other roles on the Executive Committee, these changes will not apply to the other roles. Following this process, there will be another nomination period and special election for the role of Events Coordinator.
As such, students interested in nominating themselves for the Events Coordinator role for the currently scheduled election may do so HERE.
Students interested in nominating themselves will need to submit the following information;
Name;
Phone number (may be used to contact you alongside email address);
Course;
Candidate platform, a 1-2 page description of why you believe you would make a good candidate for the position and the policies which you would pursue if you were to be elected; and
A professional photo (optional).
